Qualcomm Eudora Setup

Qualcomm released the final version (7.1.0.9) of their email software - Eudora in 2006. Given that it's not been supported for such a long time, it's assumed that you are already using the software and need to get it working with TLSv1.2 encryption.

Firstly, you need to download the HermsSSL.zip file to your computer and then shut down Eudora while you carry out these updates. In the zip file, there are 5 files that need to be copied into the same folder as your Eudora.exe file resides. These are...

libeay32.dll
license.ssl
QCSSL.dll
rootcerts.p7b
ssleay32.dll

You also need to extract vcredist.exe from the zip file and then run that. It will install Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 onto your computer (if it's not already installed). Once that has been done, your Eudora is now capable of using modern encryption. At this point, you can re-start your email software.

The next step you'll need to carry out is with the Eudora settings. Bring up the "Persona" window which shows all the connections by clicking Tools on the menu bar followed by "Personalities". Now right-click on the account you wish to change and click "Properties".

You should now see the account settings for that persona. Under SMTP server, there are 3 boxes for "Authentication Allowed", "Use Relay Personality, if defined" and "Use Submission Port (587)". Those should all be ticked. The "Secure Sockets when sending" should be set to "Required, Alternative Port".

Next, click the "Incoming Mail" tab and change the option for "Secure Sockets When Receiving" to "Required, Alternative Port".

Now click the Ok button and your Eudora software should be fully up and running. After the first email check, you can go back into the settings and check the "Last SSL info" which should confirm the negotiation status and SSL version.
