Domains

Domain button
This function allows you to add an extra domain name (or sub-domain) to your account. The new domain can be 'parked' and used as an alias which will show the same content as the main site. Ideally, you would also use the Redirects function afterwards to redirect traffic from the new domain to your existing web site. If you have a multi-site hosting package, you can add the new domain so that it appears as a completely separate web site.

Note: The domain you wish to add MUST be a registered domain name that you own and must be configured to point to our name servers in order to work. If you purchase your domain names via ourselves, it will already point to our name servers so all you need to do is add it to your account. If not, you will need to set the name servers to ns0.visn.co.uk & ns1.visn.co.uk.

Adding a new domain as an alias or parked domain

Example: You already have a web site for domain-name-here.co.uk and you have just purchased domainnamehere.co.uk which you'd like to point to the existing site so that it shows the same content.

To add/park a domain

  1. Log into the control panel.
  2. Click on the Domains icon (in the Domains section) from the main page.
  3. Click the button for Create A New Domain towards the right hand side of the screen.
  4. Enter the name of the domain that you want to park and select the text for "Just use".
  5. Make sure there's a tick for "Share document root".
  6. Click the Submit button.
  7. Please use the Redirects function to redirect the traffic from the new domain as required.
Parking a domain

Adding a domain for a separate web site (addon domain)

An addon domain is a domain name that that points to a subdirectory within your account but will appear as a separate site. For example, you may want domain-name-here.co.uk to point to a folder called "domain-name-here.co.uk" within your existing hosting account. The addon domain will look completely independent to the outside world.

Note: You MUST have a multi-site hosting account for this and we strongly recommend that YOU are the owner of all the domains for security reasons. If you wish to add another domain name to an existing addon domain, please follow the instructions to add/park a domain above.

To add an addon domain

  1. Log into the control panel.
  2. Click on the Domains icon (in the Domains section) from the main page.
  3. Click the button for Create A New Domain towards the right hand side of the screen.
  4. Enter the name of the domain that you want to park and select the text for "Just use".
  5. Make sure there's NO tick for "Share document root".
  6. Click the Submit button.
